FAQ-Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between concrete cutting and concrete coring?
Concrete cutting uses saws (slab sawing, wall sawing, or hand sawing), which can cut in a straight line to create linear openings, such as slab on grade trenches, windows, or demolition sections. Concrete coring (or core drilling) uses a diamond-tipped cylindrical bit to drill precise, circular holes, often for utilities like plumbing, HVAC, and electrical conduits. Both services require diamond cutting technology. The hole sizes can vary depending on the needs of the client. We can provide holes from 1/2" to 14" based on the needs of the client.
How deep can your company cut concrete slabs and walls?
The maximum depth depends on the equipment. For flat slab sawing (floors/pavement), we can typically cut up to 16 inches deep. For core drilling, the depth is virtually unlimited; we can drill holes several feet deep as required by the project. We can add extensions to our coring bits to achieve the depth required. The technique we employ is to cut to the maximum depth of our coring bits which is 14" and remove the concrete core then we install an extension to go another 14 inches. The deeper we go the more problematic removing the core becomes so this may limit the depth.
Do you provide dust and slurry control for interior cutting projects?
Absolutely. We prioritize cleanliness, especially in occupied buildings (residential and commercial). Our operators utilize water-cooled rigs and specialized vacuums to control silica dust and manage water slurry, ensuring a clean job site and compliance with OSHA regulations. In addition we provide two technicians to each project and their top priority is cleanliness. Our goal is to leave the site as clean as we found it. When each project is completed we will perform a final walkthrough with the client to ensure all holes are cored and the site is clean.
Can you cut concrete without any over-cuts in the corners?
Yes, for precise openings like new doors or windows, we use diamond chain sawing or corner cutting saws in conjunction with wall sawing. This technique ensures clean, 90-degree corners without "over-cuts," which maintains the structural and aesthetic integrity of the surrounding concrete.
Do you handle concrete removal and hauling after the cut is complete?
Yes. We offer full-service concrete demolition and removal. We cut the material into manageable blocks (break and remove), and with prior arrangement, we haul away the concrete debris to ensure your job site is clean and ready for the next phase of construction or renovation. Our goal is to cause no extra issues for our clients.
Do you offer 24/7 emergency concrete coring services in Metro Atlanta?
Yes, absolutely. We understand that utility emergencies, urgent plumbing repairs, electrical repairs or unexpected project deadlines can happen anytime. Our dedicated team provides 24/7 emergency concrete coring and saw cutting throughout the entire Metro Atlanta, GA area, including Alpharetta, Marietta, and Sandy Springs. Call us immediately for rapid dispatch.
What are your standard hours of operation for scheduling non-emergency work?
Our standard office and scheduling hours are 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday. However, our field crews are highly flexible. We routinely schedule night work or weekend shifts to accommodate clients who require work during off-peak hours to minimize disruption in occupied commercial buildings, retail spaces, or busy job sites. Typically we perform the services at non-overtime rates because we understand the nature of the business causes noise and disruption and need to be performed at odd hours.
Can I schedule concrete coring and GPR scanning together?
Yes, and we highly recommend it! We coordinate the scheduling of both GPR scanning (for locating rebar and utilities) and the final core drilling with the same team. This ensures maximum efficiency, safety compliance, and means you only have to make one call for both essential services across the Atlanta area. We partner with Xenogenesis RADAR Imaging who have been performing RADAR imaging in and around Atlanta since 2002. We partner with a highly qualified RADAR firm so we can focus on what we do best which is coring. We work seamlessly with their firm to provide you a one call option to get all work completed. We can provide all aspects of the job from scheduling, to billing to help reduce the stress of our clients.
What types of customers do you typically work for in the Atlanta market?
We service a wide range of clients. This includes large General Contractors, Plumbers, Electricians, HVAC companies, Engineers, Facility Managers, Homeowners and everyone in between. Whether it's large-diameter coring for a new commercial riser or a small core hole for a basement bath vent, we have the specialized equipment to meet the needs of all Atlanta construction industry professionals.
Do you perform concrete coring inside occupied buildings and homes?
Yes. We are experts in performing indoor concrete coring and cutting in sensitive environments. We utilize specialized slurry containment systems and silica dust control methods, often using HEPA vacuums, to ensure the work area is left as clean—or cleaner—than we found it. We are the trusted choice for occupied residential and commercial spaces in Atlanta.
Do you specialize in any specific material, such as heavily reinforced concrete?
Yes, our specialty is precisely coring and cutting through heavily reinforced concrete (high density with dense rebar mats). Our high-powered, diamond-segmented core bits and expert operators ensure clean holes, even when dealing with extremely thick or heavily wired slabs typical of industrial and high-rise construction in Midtown Atlanta. We do however, prefer to locate the rebar, conduit, cables, and wire mesh prior to cutting and coring using GPR (Ground Penetrating RADAR) so that it may be avoided all together, This allows the client to avoid unforeseen issues which can be cause by cutting through the wrong thing.
What is the typical cost for concrete coring per hole in the Atlanta area?
The cost for concrete coring varies widely based on three main factors: 1) Diameter and Depth of the hole, 2) Amount of Rebar/Aggregate (which determines cutting time), and 3) Job Location (travel time within the Atlanta Metro area). We always provide free, accurate quotes upfront after assessing the project specifics. Just give us a call (404) 860-1288.
Is it cheaper to hire two different companies for GPR and Coring?
No. Hiring one provider, like us, to handle both the required Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) scan and the subsequent core drilling is significantly more cost-effective and safer. It saves the clint from having to search for qualified companies to provide RADAR scanning services and prevents the client from encountering firms that truly do not know the intricacies of concrete RADAR Imaging. It also ensures immediate communication between the scanning and cutting crew, minimizing the risk of expensive utility strikes.
Beyond Atlanta, what specific cities do you service in Northern Georgia?
We offer prompt service across the entire Northern Georgia region. Key cities we frequently serve include Alpharetta, Marietta, Roswell, Sandy Springs, Decatur, Kennesaw, Duluth, and Smyrna. For specific local projects, we maintain dedicated crews to ensure quick mobilization across Fulton and Cobb counties. We can definitely handle projects a further distance from the metro Atlanta area but additional travel costs may be accessed. We always provide an estimate of costs before each project.
Why do I need Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) before concrete coring or sawing?
GPR scanning is a vital non-destructive testing (NDT) service that must be performed before any intrusive work. It uses radar waves to create a map of everything hidden in the concrete, including rebar, post-tension cables (PT cables), electrical conduits, pipes (plumbing/gas), and any voids or anomalies. Scanning is essential to prevent costly utility hits, electrocution risks, and catastrophic structural failure (especially if a PT cable is struck).
How deep can GPR see into concrete?
Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) effectiveness depends on the concrete density. In typical concrete slabs and walls, GPR can accurately locate targets down to 18-24 inches deep. We use high-frequency antennas for the best resolution when locating shallow targets like rebar and conduit in elevated slabs.
What is NDT testing, and what types do you offer in Atlanta?
NDT stands for Non-Destructive Testing. This refers to methods used to evaluate the properties of concrete without causing damage. Our primary NDT method is Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR). We also use NDT in conjunction with coring when engineers require samples for compressive strength testing to assess the structural integrity of the concrete structure. Through our partners we can provide a multitude of NDT services including Ultrasonic testing, Magnetic Particle Testing, Welder Certification, Penetrant Testing, Visual Weld Evaluation, Anchor Bolt testing, and Tensile testing to name a few.
Can GPR locate plastic pipes or electrical wiring in a slab?
Yes. GPR detects changes in material density. While metal (rebar/conduit) provides a strong reflection, GPR is fully capable of locating non-metallic objects like PVC pipes and non-metallic conduits/wires, making it essential for any work on concrete slab-on-grade or elevated slabs.
What is your service area for concrete cutting and coring?
We proudly serve the entire Metro Atlanta, GA area and surrounding counties. Our primary service region includes Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb, Gwinnett, and Cherokee counties, serving cities like Marietta, Alpharetta, Roswell, Decatur, Sandy Springs, and Buckhead. We offer 24/7 service for urgent needs across Northern Georgia.
Do you offer 24/7 emergency service for utility damage or urgent structural cuts?
Yes. We understand that construction and repair schedules don't follow a 9-to-5 day. Our Atlanta concrete cutting team offers 24/7 emergency service, including weekends and holidays, to ensure minimal downtime and rapid response for critical issues or utility repairs.
Do you service residential customers or only commercial contractors?
We serve all customer types in the Atlanta area. Whether you are a large general contractor needing wall sawing for a new commercial space, a plumber needing a single core drill for a basement, or a homeowner with a saw cutting requirement, we have the right equipment and expertise for your project.
